Pacifiers for newborns?

Question

Does anyone know if newborns should have a pacifier? I've noticed a lot of cute baby pics that shows they have them but I'm worried if I give that to my son when he's born, it may bring some nipple confusion and affect on the latching/breastfeeding.

Thoughts?

We were told at our breastfeeding class to wait until breastfeeding has been established.  It typically takes 2-3 weeks.  Same goes for introducing a bottle.

I think I read somewhere not to until like 6 weeks old? Just because of what u said nipple confusion. Maybe Google it?

I read the same information and I waited 4 weeks to give one to my first baby boy. Let me tell you, it was a long 4 weeks. Once I have it to him, he never had any problem with nipple confusion and loved taking a pacifier too.

My oldest was 48 hours old when I gave her, her pacifier. She was breastfed and was feeding every hour then projectile throwing up. I gave it to her to try and slow down how often she wanted to be fed to try and see if the throwing up would stop. It was a great help at that point but was hell when we got rid of it 
My youngest only used hers twice. Both times she was miserable the first time she was in hospital and was having a hard time sleeping the second time she had an ear infection.
When this babe is born I'm going to have one ready just in case but if she doesn't want it than its not a big deal

I heard from my lactation consultant to wait two to theee weeks to avoid nipple confusion plus when babies suck on something they burn calories and it can cause weight loss which you especially don't want with a newborn.

Both my previous children never had one there not born with one nor do they have one in the womb .... If there not given one straight away they can't want / miss something they've never known/ have that's my opinion they only cry for a reason once that reason is dealt with should have happy baby's x
