Question

Alright, so for the last two years, I have been searching for a liquid foundation that works for me. There isn't one. I have six different ones going to waste in my makeup bag because they don't work for me. My skin just hates liquid foundation. I have very combo skin, super oily t-zone, super dry outer edges. I end up using a light layer of concealer all over instead. Should I give powder foundation a try? I am not looking for coverage, I'm looking to just even out my skin tones.

Try primer first and double prime! Use a matte primer on your oily places and a moisturizing primer on your dry spots. You can also use color corrector first to even put some of your skin tone and then not have to use so much foundation on top.

I also have combo skin and have a minimal routine for daily care. I normally use a hydrating face wash, moisturizer and an eye cream. Once a week I also use a vitamin c face wash for exfoliating which I substitute for my daily wash that day. My skin is easily irritated by products so I try not to over apply.
I always make sure to moisturize with a gel moisturizer prior to applying makeup as well as the eye cream. I’ve been sticking to two foundations lately, Fenty pro filter soft matte or maybelline fit me dewy and smooth. 
If I use a matte foundation like Fenty’s, I use a hydrating primer along with a dewy setting spray so I don’t look dry. If I’m using the dewy foundation I’ll use a matte primer and matte setting spray so I don’t get too oily through the day.
I live in Florida and lately we’ve been having cool weather so I’ve been reaching for my dewy foundation but on those warm and hot days I tend to reach for the matte foundation.

Have you tried using different foundations for different parts of your skin? Sometimes during the summer that's what I have to do, I have extremely dry skin during the winter but combo during the summer.

i have the same issue! i have combination skin as well. i just don’t like the look of liquid foundation on my skin and i don’t want the extreme coverage either. but i use a CC cream with a little powder to set it and throw on a little dewy setting spray😊 it looks super natural and does the evening out that i want!

I have combo skin and this foundation never disappoints it holds well it’s buildable definitely worth every penny! If I don’t use this I use L’Oréal 24 hour foundations which also work well.

You could try powder foundation, that helps with oily skin. But you could also try like a thicker/creamier foundation(they'll usually come in a squeeze tube). Those also work to matting and even out skin tone. A good one that I would recommend is the Rimmel London Stay Matte(it's a drugstore brand and is really cheap, so even if it doesn't work you're only out of like $5). Or the Loreal Paris Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation.

I also have combo skin ! I use more of a dewy or satin foundation because of my texture matte looks rough ! I use a pore filling primer in my t zone and a hydrating one everywhere else . MOST IMPORTANTLY, I powder only the t zone ! I don’t pit powder anywhere I’m dry !!

I have combo skin as well. I wash my face then I only moisturize the dry spots and put primer on. I powder my nose and oily areas first then use a more Dewey finish foundation because matte foundations look horrible on my dry parts. Then I do concealer and bake my whole nose and under eyes. At the very end I use setting spray.

I like powder foundation but I’ve found that it doesn’t stay on as well as liquid foundation and you have to keep reapplying throughout the day to keep it fresh, I usually use it over the top of liquid foundation to create a more matte finish and I think that helps to even out the liquid foundation underneath too.
