I've suffered from health anxiety for almost 10 years, mainly focused on my heart. I controlled it well with Lexapro. Before getting pregnant, I quit drinking alcohol, lost about 30lbs, and got super committed to the gym. I had been on propranolol for years and my blood pressure was ALWAYS 110/70. My general practitioner even talked about me quitting it.

Fast forward to now. I'm 15 weeks pregnant and my health anxiety is raging out of control. I'm not taking Lexapro, and would reallt rather not have to start it back til after I deliver. My general practitioner switched me from propranolol to labetolol when I got pregnant. I've been to the cardiologist and had a full checkup which was all normal. My blood pressure is starting to creep up, though. I'm averaging 135/75ish at home and at all my doctor's appointments, which is borderline but no one is concerned. My OB even said the labetolol dose I'm on is so low that we can easily adjust if we ever need to. She said she prescribes much higher doses to manage hypertension.

Of course, I'm under tons of stress being a FTM and trying to manage work and some unpleasant pregnancy symptoms - primarily insomnia and headaches. I'm also super stressed about finding infant care that has openings this winter for my baby.

My blood pressure is great in the mornings. When I check in the afternoon or night, it's MUCH higher. Like as high as 155/93 last night. That was after the gym, eating dinner, and taking a bath. But I thought I had waited long enough. Of course, now I'm checking obsessively and it's averaging 140/80ish. It was back in the mid 130s over mid 70s this morning. I've already called and left a message for the nurse to see if I should up the labetolol, or wait and discuss at my next appointment on March 16th.

Why is my blood pressure messed up now? It had been 110/70 for YEARS before getting pregnant. I'm currently only taking 50mg of labetolol twice a day for 100mg total. I'm so scared of preeclampsia and now it's all I can think about, which certainly isn't helping with the insomnia. Anyone else develop blood pressure issues this early? My parents have told me to put the cuff away and try not to think about it for a couple days. I'm hoping the nurse will call back soon. I just got a clean bill of health from the cardiologist last week, where my blood pressure was 130/70. Is this all in my head? Is my anxiety causing these spikes?
