How To Discipline Your Child ?

Everyone is welcome to share their ways of doing it. Also do you believe in hitting your child as an effective way to discipline them? Do you believe in free range or are you consider a strict parent ?

Distraction when they are younger. I let them cry it out and throw their temper tantrum, then talk about it when they are done. As for teens - take away electronics and do civic work. I don’t resort to spankings. Time outs work on some kids.

My mother never hit us. She got even with embarrassment or Shame. You slammed the door, she took the door away. Took the door off the hinges put the door under her bed and kept the hinges in her purse no door for a month. You racked up the phone bill she took the chords and chargers away and kept them with her. You didn’t want to share at the playground, everyone got the snack but you. The next time guess who shared. You shoplifted my mother blew it up like you were a bank robber lol. She knew the police since she had a store in town when we were kids. You had to go back to the store, admit what you did. Clean up the store, pay for the item and give it to a well behaved kid. Then she took us to the police station. Had to have time out in a holding cell, talk to the chief of police. Sit in the back of a cop car etc. needless to say none of us ever stole again lol. You didn’t want to go to January because people might see you and was bad for your reputation guess where she made you go to January and stand out front with bags to make sure people saw you. Even though we had a cleaning lady, we still had to clean on Saturday mornings and had chores. She cleaned during the week. We cleaned on the weekend. She kept us so busy that we didn’t have time to get in trouble. We were in every activity after school and on the weekends. Church, youth group, sports, girls scouts, dance, karate etc.

I use time out as punishment. If I ask something from them and they don’t listen I start counting, as soon as I start they do whatever I ask them before I get to number 3, lol. Also, I don’t let them use iPads or phones unless it’s the weekend. Week days are to play outside and do homework, reading time, etc.
