I got swabbed for discharge and worries of an infection. When the swab came back it had found thrush and GBS.

My midwife phoned me to let me know what will happen with the GBS.. regarding an IV drip in labour and the fact that there is no real concerns if you get the antibiotics in labour.

I had done research and realised how lucky I was to have had a swab done and find it for the babies sake.

I went to the same midwife 2 weeks ago and she didn’t mention it to me.. didn’t offer me any more explanations or anything in regards of what to do when I go into labour.. so I thought I’d just ask.

She informed me that unless it’s found in urine that it isn’t actually an issue and that I shouldn’t even worry about it.. that I wouldn’t need antibiotics because it was only found on a swab. I even asked her if I needed to mention it when I phoned up to say I was in labour and she said it wasn’t really necessary.

I felt like her approach of GBS had changed so quickly I decided to speak to a midwife from the hospital I’m giving birth in about it and said what this other midwife had said and she was furious that this other midwife would put my baby at such a risk.

I feel so let down already, I’m due to give birth soon and I genuinely don’t know if I’m coming or going with GBS and healthcare.
