I second the copious amounts of water drinking. In my third trimester i got increasingly thirsty to i started drinking 64oz of water minimum a day (i bought a 64oz bottle from amazon). I continue to do so at 11 weeks & have a very good supply.

Eat plenty of healthy calories. Nurse at hospital said i’d need to consume an addituonal 500 calories is breastfeedj g. You are producing the only energy source for your little one- it has all the sugar, fats & protein baby needs and it all comes from you. So those extra calories preserve your caloric needs and provide for the breastmilk.

The Haakaa is a life changer! Def get it to catch your letdown of your non-feeding breast. I also started a stash this way.

When you are in the hospital make sure you have a nurse demonstrate and show you how to breastfeed. I did not find breastfeeding to be intuitive & easy- there are very specific things to do to get a good latch etc. Keep doing it and practicing, eventually it will become more natural.

Kellymom.com is a great resource for breastfeeding. Our ped recommebded it. I go to it often for help & info. It helped a lot when i learned i had a fast letdown & needed to help baby not choke on the milk.

It will initially hurt because you (likely) never had that amount of friction on your boobs. The pain got considerably better at 4 weeks and almost painless at 6 weeks. I say that to say, if you can bare it & get past those first weeks it does get better. But if too painful & other things dont help (nipple shields etc) dont worry if you feel you cant take it anymore.

Lastly, do not doubt yourself and think you are not making enough milk!!! You are making just what baby needs as he ages as long as you feed on demand. During periods of clusterfeeding i always thought i was drying up, but it was not the case. My hubby often told me to give him formula. I ignored him & did my thing. As long as baby has the right number of wet & poopy diapers & is gaining weight, he is getting plenty of milk. So just stick to it & dont let others tell you you are not making enough as long as baby us gaining weight & has wet diapers. If you have any doubts, speak with your ped.
