When did you start sleep training and how old ?

My son is 1 month tomorrow hates sleeping anywhere other than mine or my husbands arms / chest wakes up every 30 min to a hour at night because we’re not holding him wondering if all this is normal when do I start sleep training

Sleep training isn’t usually recommend until  around 4 to 6 months. Taking Cara Babies offers a newborn sleep class that I have read really good things about!

It takes a whole year for the brain to get to a point when a human has a developed sleep cycle. Before 4 months the two parts of the brain that dictate sleep can't even communicate to each other. No point in sleep training until at least 4 months, any improvement before then is pure coincidence.
I literally only yesterday watched a documentary and looked into all this because my son is an awful sleeper (he's past this age but I'm due 2nd in Summer and wanted to know if there was anything I could do to improve my chances of getting better sleep second time round).

Definitely not until atleast 6 months. It’s normal for newborns not to sleep. The beginning is very hard but eventually he’ll start sleeping longer stretches

Try swaddling him and put the shirt  you wore that day in his bed with him so he can smell you. Maybe that will help him.

Usually sleep training begins between 4 and 6 months. But, you can start a bedtime routine anytime! By routine I mean, a guideline for sleep, and not a schedule. 
Bath, jammies, bottle, diaper change, lotion, bedtime story, etc., whatever you’d like the routine to be. Be very consistent with the routine daily and eventually baby will begin to associate those tasks with bedtime. I started routines for naps and bedtime with my now 7 week old baby. I’m flexible with naps and times during the day, but when it comes to bedtime, we start our routine at 7pm every night. 
Have you tried swaddling baby for sleep? White noise can be very helpful too. The newborn stage is very difficult, but it will get a little bit easier with time. Hang in there mama!

You can try to get baby on a schedule, but that usually doesn't happen until 4 months or so. Sleep training, as in any kind of cry it out, not until 6 months at the earliest

Enjoy these cuddles and soak them in. Soon he will climatise to his surroundings and won't need that comfort. For the moment, respond to his needs - he was in your womb for so long and craves your smell, warmth and touch. I know it's a sacrifice mama, but it will all be worth it. X

I have started sleep training at 2 weeks. My 4 week old sleeps from 9-3am now, in her own crib. And then 1-2 naps per day in her crib. The other naps are done with us, downstairs, on us, etc. we used the book “moms on call” and it is a true life saver for us.
