We’ve always started behind the passenger seat because my husband needs the seat all the way back when he drives, and all the rear facing car seats we’ve had don’t give him quite enough room.

I don't have a baby but I read once that driver side was less likely to get hit and the driver is instinctively going to protect their side.

Here in Australia they recommend behind the passenger so it’s safer getting them out because they will be further away from the road.

When I got my son's seat fitted before he was born I asked for it to go in the middle and the lady told me the safest was behind the passenger seat or drivers seat but better behind passenger seat and that's what we did, my boy is now two and still has seat on passenger side

I always did the infant seat and rear facing behind the driver. I felt it was safer for me if I was alone and putting her in the car. Once forward facing I moved her to the middle so she could climb onto the seat and get in her seat herself. Once baby #2 is here I’ll put her seat behind passenger and infant seat behind driver. I couldn’t use the middle seat for the latch system because both cars don’t have latch brackets for the middle seat.

My daughter’s (3) car seat is behind the driver side & our infant car seat is installed behind the passenger seat.

Ours will be behind passenger, that way i will always be on the sidewalk side when I'm getting him in and out of the car
