Baby leaving NICU with G tube?

Lauren • Had my sweet girl 02/22/20 - 5 weeks early due to rare genetic disorder💗 Had my handsome man 09/30/22 - 3 weeks early due to low birth weight💙

So the doctor came around today and explained to us that since the only issue our daughter has left keeping her in the NICU is her being able to take a bottle, she will be let home when her gestational age reaches 38 weeks (so a week from today) after she has a swallow study.

The swallow study will determine what they send her home with. She could go home with what she has now (I can’t remember the name) which is a tube that runs in her nose and to her stomach and whatever she doesn’t take from a bottle would go through the tube. This would be the option if her swallow study is good and no milk is going to her lungs.

Worst case if there is milk going to her lungs (which could cause pneumonia so we obviously don’t want that) she would have to have a g tube inserted into her belly right into her stomach and be fed that way until she can eat without the milk going to her lungs.

Obviously we’re so excited she will get to go home next week (granted everything else stays good like it has been), but has anyone gone through going home with these two feeding options for their baby’s? How was it? Any advice?
