Any tips for a newbie with an apartment?

We just got a new two bed and bath apartment and this is our first apartment. I just wanna know tips or advice you guys have. It’s something new to us and I’m nervous about not making it. My bf is reminding me that we’ll be fine but It’s just nerve racking. Any advice or tips is appreciated.

Establish a budget and stick to it.

Don’t get caught up in decorating or making an instagram home. It doesn’t matter if your furniture doesn’t match or your walls are empty. We’re in our 30s and have owned a home for 5 years - our tv stand is a simple one I built nearly a decade ago and our coffee table was made by my FIL when he was in high school. Our couch was free on Craigslist until it broke. Don’t drain your money on unnecessary stuff or replacing what isn’t broken.

Make a budget. Keep the budget. Make a cleaning schedule. Keep the schedule. And most importantly...walk quietly if you have neighbors below you 🙃

It’s definitely super scary having your own place for the first time! I am in a similar situation only my Hubby and I just bought a house, biggest investment of our life! But my advice is don’t stress out enjoy that you have a place you get to call your own and also share it with your significant other! Remember living together in your own apartment does require team work so you are definitely never alone, you guys have each other. 🙂 it’s always the best feeling to come home from work knowing that only you can make your place a home.

Both of you should save half of all your pay checks for rent and bills. If you don’t share bank accounts make sure you have an understanding of the funds you will both be responsible for each month and set expectations. Communicate and work together. Good luck!

Ditto on the furniture, currently in my 1st apartment & didn’t find a “real” couch i could afford on my own until a couple months after i moved in. Goodwill/Good condition hand me downs are lifesavers & help you stick to a budget. 
Document any kind of “damage” or anything that doesn’t work quite right from the day you get there so you don’t get stuck with repair bills.. i.e My kitchen faucet was broken, trim was loose (wood floors) so i took pictures & if they aren’t fixed by the time my lease is up I won’t be forced to pay for those.
