Is the name ‘Evelyn’ too popular?

I’ve loved the name for YEARS and it has always been my #1 girl name. Well now that we’re pregnant and expecting a girl, it looks like the name is in the top 10 most popular names. But I’ve only know 4 girls with the name In like 8 years. What do you think? Should I still go with it anyways?

i honestly never hear it and i think it’s so beautiful! it was my great grandmother’s name and i’ve only met one other evelyn and she was wonderful so i love the name.

It’s certainly very popular. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it, if it’s what you love most. 
The most popular names today are less common than the most popular names used to be 30 years ago. It’s not like there’d be three in every class. More like three in her elementary school, or three in her graduating class.

Evelyn is a timeless classic in my opinion. Too often trendy names go out of style but a name like Evelyn can stand the test of time. I say use it if you like it, we did with our daughter Evelyn Margaret.

I don’t know of any baby Evelyn’s. I know a couple of Everly/Everleigh’s which is super trendy now.

My Evelyn is 12. And named after her grandmother. And I love it. Wasn’t popular at all when we chose.

If you go to the Social Security Administration website you can find the top 100 names by popularity by state. So you can see where it’s ranking in your state, sometimes it varies a lot! The 2019 results get listed sometime in May. 
We only have one girl name on our list and it’s pretty popular but we’re waiting to see what the 2019 new list says to see if it’s going down or getting more popular.

I was the same way! I loved the name Evelyn, but it was getting so popular, I questioned whether or not I should use it. I’m glad I did because I hear it occasionally, but not ALL the time like I expected. I couldn’t imagine my little Evie being named anything else.

If we have a girl we are naming her that! It’s such a beautiful name. I work with kids and have never met another one so far! :)
