My daughter just barely started taking steps.... we’re nowhere near potty training.

The common way of potty training is to wait until the toddler displays certain signs of readiness, like dry diaper after nap or in the morning, being able to express a need to go, being able to take clothes off, etc. You can easily find the lists online. I doubt at this age our kids would fit these criteria, which is why people usually start around age 2 or even later. 
There are exceptions, of course. Some people don’t use diapers to begin with and there are kids who use the potty earlier.  Usually that’s not conventional potty training, though, but involves being really close at all times and being able to recognize when your kid needs to go. I have a feeling you would either need to be a SAHM or have a special kind of arrangement with your care person. I doubt my daycare would be prepared to let my 12-month-old roam the the halls without a diaper.

We’ve been using potty chair since 8th month. It’s all about her getting used to at this point, but since we started it happened only few times when she did number two in diaper, otherwise it is always on the potty chair. It’s just important to figure out her schedule and look for signs, not really that hard. And then I ask her if she needs to poo and sometimes she will raise her hands to pick her up and sit her on the chair or she simply is not protesting when I undress her and sit on the chair. I never force it, I believe it’s really easier for her to poop in diaper than in diaper and she likes to observe when we throw her achievement in the toilet and flash it 😅

Since about 11 months we have been putting our son on the potty when he wakes up in the morning, and after naps. That way we get anywhere for
 1-3 pees on the potty a day. We also try before bath time. But we generally miss that one.

12 poops on the toilet!! 💪💩
I know ppl will think I'm crazy but you know what!? It's actually easier for me. I'm not potty training her pee just her poops. She makes it obvious and I can easily predict when she will go. So when I see her start to push I take her hand and bring her to the toilet. I don't know the last time I changed a poopy diaper! After she goes I flush the toilet and she says "bye bye poop" then I give her a small/healthy treat.

My tips are if you're very serious about it and are able to do this pick a time frame, for me it's every hour to hour and a half (I'm a stay at home mom and my daughter can go two hours without using the bathroom and points to her pull-ups when they are wet so that's how I knew she was ready), and put your little one on the potty and just sit with them for a few minutes. I usually try to 5 minutes and we play Pokemon go or another baby game or I just sit and talk to her. We let the dogs come in and she pets them just something to keep them relaxed. If they pee or 💩 then we get excited and clap and I hand her a square of toilet paper and show her how to wipe. She's been doing this since the Monday after her birthday but I'm not super strict about it so some days we don't sit on the potty as often and some days we go every hour on the hour. I'm more concerned right now with just getting her use to the potty.

We bought a potty chair last week and aren’t actively training her yet but wanted it around to get her used to it. We started sitting her on it when she woke up in the morning, after waking up from a nap and before bathtime. Mostly just so she’s comfortable sitting on it. Yesterday it started playing a royal tune 👑🎶 as I was standing next to her and I was like “wait did you just go pee on the potty?!?” Lol We danced around and got all excited. 
My niece was fully potty trained by 18 months so don’t think it’s impossible to train them young. Every kid is different. My sister switched her to cloth diapers around 15 month and that made it way easier to potty train her because she could feel being wet and didn’t like it.
