Nursing bra vs. nursing tank?

Are nursing tanks 100% necessary? I feel like just getting a couple good quality nursing bras will work. I am having a winter baby so If I got the tank i'd probably have another layer over it, but I would also have layers over the bra. Just needing some input!

I have both but I prefer the nursing bra. I have large breasts and I don't feel the tank gives me very much support so I end up wearing the bra under it anyways. Plus, as you said, I end up putting shirts over the tank because it's cold.

I'm planning to use both. Right now 3 days post delivery I'm in s VERY VERY soft Jessica Simpson bra. Most tanks are too rough for my INCREDIBLY SORE nipples.

For tummy exposure I just wear the Bella band that I wore during pregnancy. An added bonus is bum crack coverage when bending!

As others have said, I like both for different times. What's nice about the tank (and I'll often wear a nursing bra under) is that you take down the top and your stomach is covered. Yes, nice for winter but it's good in general for coverage because you can keep most of you exposed.
