Do atheists pray???

Question

I don’t know if pray is the proper word. But in a world full dismay are there moments of silence where they are alone in thought

Wishing 
Hoping 
PRAYING
for a normalcy. Or for things to get better. 
Are they speaking to themselves maybe about their wishes, hopes, dreams???

Is this a plot to try to say that everyone should pray? I don’t believe in god and I will not be praying ever in my life. Do I keep people in my thoughts? Absolutely. That isn’t the same as religion and I would hope not to be judged on what I believe and don’t believe.

My husband is an atheist, I asked him your question. He said he puts his desires out to the universe. He believes that saying something out loud or even just in your head can manifest it.
So a form of prayer, but not to a “god” or figure.

Praying isn’t the same same hoping or wishing 
Is prayer part of your life? It is for many people, even some atheists. But why do people pray? According to a poll in France, half of French citizens pray or meditate at times “simply to feel better.” Like many Europeans, they do not pray in a religious sense. Rather, they seek “the soothing effects of prayer.” On the other hand, some believers turn to God only when they are in need, expecting immediate answers to their requests.—Isaiah 26:16.
Mental-health experts tell us that people need spiritual values in order to be truly happy. We see this in the fact that people want to belong to something or serve someone or some cause greater than themselves. To satisfy this need, some devote their leisure time to nature, art, music, and so on. Yet, most find no deep or lasting fulfillment in such pursuits.
God wants humans to be happy now and forever
The fact that humans have an inborn spiritual yearning comes as no surprise to Bible readers. The first chapters of Genesis indicate that after God created the first human couple, he spoke with them regularly, allowing them to establish a spiritual relationship with him. (Genesis 3:8-10) God did not design humans to live independently of him; they have a need to communicate with their Maker. The Bible refers to this need frequently.
Jesus, for example, stated: “Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need.” (Matthew 5:3) From those words, we may conclude that an essential ingredient of a happy and contented life is satisfying our innate spiritual appetite. How can we do that? Jesus pointed to the answer when he said: “Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every utterance coming forth through Jehovah’s mouth.” (Matthew 4:4)

I’d imagine many say “I really hope...” or “I wish for....” but I doubt most pray to someone in particular. Just general thoughts. I consider myself agnostic but I do pray. I used to consider myself to be atheist and I did pray then. I’d be willing to say a lot of non religious people do pray to a god or some religious figure because they were forced to as a child. I know I was so it just became habit. And an unhealthy habit, to be honest.

Yeah I hope things get better but no it's not prayer I'm not asking for it to get better. I just hope it does..
