I know this is corona virus related but also controversial so if not allowed here, please move. I don't think they should be released. Edit: it says an employee there was lost to the virus this week if you didn'tcatch that...if there is a chance the inmates were already exposed, should they still be released into general public regardless of crime?

Yes. Some inmates should be released. Jails are giant incubators for contagion, and many many people being held are not a threat to the general public. 
My county has already started releasing the most vulnerable. One example provided to local news was a high risk pregnant inmate being held on a nonviolent misdemeanor. There’s little chance she’s a threat to anyone. 
Once things restart, released inmates will still be expected to report in. It’s hardly a “get out of jail free card”.

I'm for it for low level inmates who have had good behavior and less than a year left on their sentence. Most of those charges are probably drug related anyways so they shouldn't even be in prison.

I don’t see an issue with it. From what I saw they’re not doing arrests for non violent crimes right now either 
Not sure if that’s completely true but if it is I hope they continue this behavior regardless of the pandemic. Non violent offenders shouldn’t be jailed in the first place

I can understand the sentiment. I worry about them having already been exposed and participating in community spread and also being released and having no resources once out.

Maybe if they’re in for pot or speeding tickets or something stupid like that. But murder or rape, let them stay and fingers crossed contract and die alone.

This is truly in no way an opinion but I'm really wondering why the reaction to a cruiseship when they found someone infected was to lock everyone in but they are looking to let people out of prison because of a person testing positive. I'm truly wondering how these scenarios differ.

No. First, why spread the virus further?
Second, the virus is being hyped up by the media and portrayed as worse than it is. You’re more likely to die from the flu. Two nurses have told me that. 
Third, they are using that an excuse to get out early. Nothing more. Why let criminals out early? Not smart.

Hell no. Keep them there. Why should they be released as a precaution for the virus when it's literally everywhere. Stop using the pandemic for personal gain 🤷🏻‍♀️ you got put in jail so you should have to serve your time. Funny how now other illness/disease was ever used as an excuse to release inmates.
