Anxiety on high alert

Jessica • Mom of two

I live in Utah and Wednesday we had a huge earthquake. It was a 5.7. That’s big for us. It woke me up. I was home alone with my brothers girlfriend and my 2 yr old. I had a massive panic attack right after because I couldn’t get ahold of my husband.

Last night I was afraid to go to sleep. My husband couldn’t understand why. He was at work when the quake happened. He wasn’t alone with our child when it happened. He wasn’t there with the aftershocks that shook our house. He was only around for the last big aftershock.

I didn’t go to sleep until 4 am this morning and only sleep for 3 hours. I couldn’t stop my mind from running wild. Every time I closed my eyes I felt like I was back in that 5.7 quake.

If you have never been in an earthquake. Do you remember having earthquake drills in elementary school? The sound they play over the intercom sound exactly like what an actual earthquake. And all the practice hiding under a desk. Goes out the window when the disaster is actually happening.
