If you and relatives live separately and both self-quarantine, should you still go visit them?

No. What’s the point of self quarantine and social distancing if you’re not actually doing the same?￼

Social distancing is not the same as quarantine is what people don’t understand. Yes you can still go see them.

Unfortunately, even though in some states you still “can” go visit people, many states or individual counties are under stay at home orders. But directly to your question: no we should not visit our elders right now. Of course some people are caretakers, but I really appreciate the other comments that are doing everything they can to minimize spread by dropping off groceries on doorsteps, entirely without contact. We did something similar when I needed a thermometer from my mom’s house: had her put it in a bag on her doorstep and picked it up without seeing her. 
But the reality is that even if you both isolate completely for two weeks (not even a grocery run or the like, nothing that would pose potential exposure as that would restart the two week countdown) one of you could be an asymptomatic carrier and despite not showing any symptoms, could be sick and pass it on with a cough or a sneeze, a little bit of kid drool etc. I won’t get to hug or see my parents for quite a while I expect, but it’s completely and purely out of love. Makes me grateful they’re here even to call on the phone. 💕

I've gone to my mom's house to drop things off since she is disabled and sick. We talk through the front window. I stand 6 feet away and that way we can still talk without being too close. We talk every day and I see her once a week when I drop off groceries

NO!  This is what people aren't understanding for some reason.

I think if it’s necessary, then it should be a quick visit and as limited interaction as possible. Some people have to go to family or friends homes because they’re a caretaker for them. My parents go to my grandmas home once or twice a week to bring her groceries and other things. It’s unavoidable. But they don’t hug her or touch her. They just being the groceries, keep their distance, and then leave. But I think if you’re just wanting to go “hang out” and visit, this isn’t the best time to be doing that.

Depends on the area. If you’re in NYC or something, no. If you’re in an area without the virus yet, it’s fine in my opinion.

My husband has been working night shift for the past month and I have been alone all day with my son. So I visit my parents every couple of days and they don’t go anywhere and I constantly wash my hands and stuff. I don’t see the problem with that. I get sad being alone and FaceTime does not help.
