Adding -y to make a name unique?

Question

I've noticed that a lot of people are pushing to have "unique" names for their children and to do so they are adding a -y into the name to change the more traditional spelling. 
Examples:
Cayden vs Caden
Addyson vs Addison
Austyn vs Austin
Bayley vs Bailey
Do you love it? Hate it? Or think that it's just a fad and not really unique if everyone is doing it?

It’s all pronounced the same, so it’s not unique at all.

My parents decided to give me a name that everyone knows but spell it one letter different. I wonder why they felt the need to do this ALL THE TIME. It’s the same name but now I have to explain myself constantly. If you like a name just use the name. At the end of the day it will be said the same so it’s not anymore unique.

My thought has always been that you’re not giving your kid a unique name, you just giving them a ‘normal’ name spelled wrong.

Not a fan at all. I have a hard time understanding the point of it to be honest. It's going to make it that much harder for them to find their name on a coke bottle (lol had to add a little humor)

I dislike it. And i dislike adding a Y to boy names for girls. 
Jasyn, Carsyn, Jonathyn (lol jk but i wouldnt be surprised)

It seems really pointless to me. Just spe the name correctly. Whether you spell it Jadyn or Jaden, it sounds exactly the same. All you're doing is guaranteeing your child have their name spelled wrong

I think it’s so dumb. As a teacher, nothing is more annoying than kids having super easy/common names spelled SO difficult.
