My job is threatening to cut my hours

I’m so sorry if this doesn’t belong in this group- I’ll delete it immediately if it doesn’t.

I work as an administrative assistant and have a clear contract that states any non-mutually agreed upon changes can’t take effect for 3 months. Ex) they can’t cut my hours unless I agree for 3 months. And I can’t quit or try to cut my own hours if they don’t agree for 3 months.

I was briefly informed today that business is suffering and they may have to cut my hours down. However, there’s no actual plans in place at the moment. I work for a small company, I’m the only one the pay hourly. I do basically everything for their company but there’s not been much for me to do since the corona thing really came down last week.

I’m technically self-employed, they call me an independent contractor. But we do still have a contract.

My husband and I are expecting our first child in 3 months time, but now there’s a possibility I’ll lose half my wage - and I’m the breadwinner so we really can’t afford to lose anything. We just had to blow through our savings for an emergency, and continue to have bills, some debts and expenses we were starting to save for.

Any advice? I know people have it worse off and I’m grateful to have what I have.
