Hysterectomy at 22?

Question

So for the past year I've been getting I infections right before and right after my period. I really want to get a hysterectomy to just alleviate this. Plus I have severe cramps, and fatigue during my period. All the doctors just tell me to take an ibuprofen and call it day. When my period comes I also tend to get cysts on my ovaries too. I get it that I'm too young to get a hysterectomy but quite frankly I'm tired of going thru this once or twice a month.i definitely don't want any kids either. Any suggestions or opinions in general?

The likelihood of you being able to get an elective hysterectomy is slim. Doctors don’t generally do that, and insurance won’t cover it without a medical reason. Good luck.

What kind of infections? Yeast infections are common before your period, upping your probiotics will largely help with that.
If your period pain is that bad, you should consult a doctor anyway to check for an underlying problem.
Ovarian cysts are very common and yes they suck (I myself are prone to them) and that's something else your doctor should help you with.
You don't quite specify if you're GP or gynae has sent you on your way when bringing your symptoms, but you should rather try changing doctors.
I feel like you might be jumping the gun for something that might be very manageable if you just get to the right doctor.

If you’re 100% certain that it’s what you want and you know you definitely don’t want children naturally then I’d suggest finding a doctor that supports your decision and being persistent. Unfortunately most doctors don’t allow people having a hysterectomy so young unless there is a genuine reason and it’s usually a last resort so you will probably be in for a long journey ahead. Why don’t you just choose a form of birth control that will stop your period all together (if you’re sure it’s linked to your period). The Depo shot or the implant might be good options for your situation. I would think any Dr would let you try something like that.

I would say do not get a hysterectomy. It can be a very altering surgery and cause you to be on hormones the rest of your life. If you can get on some long term medication that stops your period I would try that first. And find a doctor that supports you in finding a solution. You may have to be pushy and demand a specialist referral.

I am not well educated, but believe hysterectomies, especially when young, come with a lot of negative side effects. I would look into if it could be more harmful for you than the infections and cramps. And I agree it will be very difficult to get.
