Apps to help toddler talk??

Question

My 18 month old son only says mama and dada and baba.  I am wondering if anyone has used any apps, to help their child?? I am getting desperate and having really bad anxiety over him not speaking, there has to be SOMETHING that can help.  Or any tips to help them start talking, other than reading any constantly talking to him, because I already do that and it’s not helping 😔😔
He has no interest in learning how to talk, he’s extremely stubborn.  I repeat the same words over and over and over and over and over again and he makes no attempt at all to speak. 
He recognizes colors and some shapes, and most animals.  if I say point to the blue dog, he’ll point, but won’t say dog.  He won’t even try. 
He LOVES books.  He drags his book basket over to me, and he gets really excited when it’s time to read, which makes me think he really wants to learn more words, but then no attempt to say anything!! And we read the same books over and over and over again!! 
I spoke to his pediatrician at his 15 month apt, and she said that if he still wasn’t talking by 18 months, we can start early intervention. 
At his 18 month apt, she wasn’t concerned because he doesn’t show any signs of autism, and he is communicating, just not verbally, so he is just “speech delayed” so we will wait until his 21 month apt
I decided to try to find a speech therapist on my own but with coronavirus, I can’t get him an evaluation, understandably so.  I’m in NY so we will be on lockdown until who knows when so I really am desperate for anything that can help.
I’m really upset because if we started speech therapy at 15 months like I asked, then we would atleast be able to have speech therapy via facetime, but since she dismissed my concerns I don’t even know when I can get an evaluation

None. Talking should be taught by interaction between you and baby as well as speech therapy. Studies show that babies with speech delays do much better with actual human interaction. That even goes for learning colors, shapes, ABCs, etc. Please don’t rely ￼on apps to teach your little one.

I am an Early Intervention home ABA teacher in NY. Unfortunately, your doctor did prolong the wait to get in-home speech and now with this pandemic it will be even longer.  It takes 6-8 weeks minimum from the time you go to the DOH to ask for an evaluation to the time you can receive services. If you have not at least started the process, call the DOH every few days till you get at least the process started for an evaluation once this pandemic calms down. 
In the meantime, keep talking to your little one. Label everything. Chat with them about everything you do, no matter how insignificant. Sing silly made up songs about every day things and tasks. 
Work on their receptive language by having them touch pictures and objects in the environment. Practice physical imitation skills such as clapping and stomping their feet. These pre-learning behaviors lead to speech imitation. 
Keep up with the reading to him. Get some simple picture books with no story but just pictures (Priddy books are a fav of mine). Use those to work on strengthening his receptive skills. 
Finger play and repetitive songs  such as ‘itsy bitsy spider’ or ‘open shut them’ or ‘no more monkeys’ offer chances fir you to start singing, stop, and your child can fill in the blank. Phrases such as ‘ready, set, GO!’ Paired with a car or ball rolling and they fill in the GO to get you to roll the ball/car.  
A go to fav of mine is to use bubbles to get a BUH sound. Start blowing bubbles, before each individual blow say Bubbles..BUH BUH BUHbbles!’after a few times, pause with the wand by your lips and see if your child says BUH.
Keep trying all these things daily. It can takes weeks of daily ABA or speech to et results. 
Apps are not as helpful as the human interaction between you and your child.

My son is 16 months and sounds very similar! He has early intervention (due to being small when he was born) and they gave us some handouts of things to do for language. If you message me I can send them to you!

No apps. Just have conversations with him. Say everything you are touching and repeat things over and over. Look at the ball, do you like the ball, the ball rolls, etc. Just talk through everything you are doing. Apps will have him touching and matching more than speaking opportunities. Lay objects out and have him select certain things.

He’ll get there. My friends little boy didn’t say a dang word until he was 5. Nothing was wrong with him at all. He just didn’t talk, now he’s a regular chatterbox.

Maybe try some flash cards? I’m also worrying about my baby but she’s only 12 months. I feel like everyone is saying she should say a bunch of words right now but she only says mama and dada and dog and babbles

I don't recommend apps to be honest. But I wouldn't stress just yet either. When my son was 18 months he only said 5-10 words. But when he was around 21 months he had a massive language boom and was speaking in sentences before his second birthday. Now he is just over 2 and the words and sentences he says blow me away from where we were just over 6 months ago. I do recommend going on Pinterest and searching for some speech therapy activities to get a head start though. They are easy to implement and inexpensive. It will at least bring you some peace of mind.

So we had a very similar problem. My son only said a few words and I was so worried. His hearing was fine at the hospital but I had some concerns once he turned 15 months old. He was frequently getting ear infections so we finally got into an ENT and figured out he had 55% hearing loss. He got tubes put in his ears and now his hearing is at 100%. It is complete night and day compared to how he was. He is still behind, but now he is regularly adding new words to his vocabulary! Might want to have his hearing checked again!

I downloaded speech bubble. I’m potty training so I’ll let him have that when he’s on the potty. But you just need to keep talking to him and keep doing what you’re doing. Work on certain words a day. My son is in speech and I’ve learned somethings(I had to stay in the room with him the first few times until he was comfortable) we do interactive learning. So like the other day I just filled a bucket of water and put his sea animals in it and worked out “in and out” and counting how many animals he had. But same thing he’s just stubborn. Because he has said many words before, and he knows what you’re talking about. But he’ll also just talk when he’s ready I think. I didn’t start talking until I was 3, my boyfriends niece didn’t talk until she was 3. And my son is also almost 3. And for a while his doctor wasn’t concerned either, just kind of said the same thing. But I decided it was best I try to get him some help so I did. And it’s working out well, he is saying a few more words. But now he’s able to count 1-10, so again I think he’s just being stubborn about it and will talk when he’s ready. But just keep working with him one on one.

Apps arent going to help, maybe look up tips on yotube of speech therapy .
And practice that with your son.
I dont reccomend sign language ( they might use that instead of talking at all)
