Low morphology

Hi everyone. After a year and a half, and a miscarriage later, my husband’s test came back with low morphology. He has an appointment in April and I hope he gets to keep it (with corona running rampant). I find myself needing some info in the meantime. How is this treated? What are our options for conceiving? Anyone willing to share their experiences?

My husband only had 2% normal morphology. To my knowledge, there is no treatment to combat poor morphology. Treatment is IVF with ICSI. We just went through this and we successfully have 12 embabies frozen. Best of luck!

I should mention, my husband went on a natural supplement 4 months prior to IVF NFH Male Fertility SAP recommended by our naturopath.

Hi I just thought I'd share some positivity on this post, my partner was told back in july he had 0 morphology...all other counts were above average he repeated the test one month later (later on our fertility consultant advised that his GP shouldn't of requested the test to be repeated so soon and it should of been 3 months) his second analysis count and motility had improved even more but morphology only increased to 0.5% we were advised IVF/ICSI would be our only option. We were referred for IVF back in January and I fell pregnant naturally in February and am now 14 weeks along. he was taking vitamins zinc, maca root, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B complex, selenium and coenzyme q10. I live in the UK but back in December our consultant advised us to purchase some antioxidants called impryl I'm not sure if these had an effect and if they improved his morphology or if we were just incredibly lucky but I would say dont give up trying and dont be disheartened by the result it can still happen, good luck x

Keep in mind that our first 2 samples were so poor that androligist found 2 normal sperms and one borderline out of 100 000 000. At that point we were all so worried that we wont even have enough sperm for ivf isci and my eggs as doctors can only use perfectly shaped one. Even with icsi they want to see at least 1 percent morphology in a sample of at least 20 000 000 so it is worth it to prepare for ivf icsi sperm wise as each sperm cycle is 3 months long from primordial spermazoa to mature ones. So if his sample was bad it will be like that for at least 72 days even up to 3 months. So if he is to improve it he must start working on it 3 months prior. Our andrologist keep saying if a man has high everything but low morphology it is because of what he puts abd does with his body as long as hormones are good and there is not any other physiological reason behind it. Mine hates broccoli and kale and most vegetables and leafy greans so i hide them in his fruit smoothies. If you need additional help let me know.

Hey there! First of all, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this, right now of all times. COVID has made it even more difficult for all of us. My husband has had 3 SAs now, all of them with poor morphology. The first two had 1% morphology, low motility and low forward progression. Our fertility doctor gave us a 2% chance of natural conception. We then did an IUI. The analysis from that came back better! He’d been taking fertilaid vitamins and it definitely seemed to help motility (up from 14% to 40%) but morphology was still only 2%. At this point, we are trying naturally and hoping for a miracle, but IVF with ICSI is the best solution once clinics reopen.

Morphology is the worst to improve after like zero count or something. It is a heart breaking journey. We tried the best still went up ever so slightly.

First he might need additional testing to see if there is physical or hormonal reason behind it that can be resolved. In some cases there is no reason indicated. In this case scenario your best bet is diet high of oily fish lots of ftuit and vegetables plus leafy greans and ginger. Additionally fertility suppliment for men like for conception. We never had a reason discovered for the zero morphology diet and suppliments brought it to 1 percent from zero. There is no official cure treatment for it just that in some people good diet nutrition and physical exercise help a bit. We still need icsi though but at least we have enough sperm for the procedure. In case of anything under 2 percent most RE will advise to go for ivf icsi. Anything above you might have chance with iui if all else is good but it still has slightly higher chance than natural conception and still costs a lot. Ivf icsi worked for us but sadly our only good embryo i miscarried early on of the pregnancy.
