Is it a failed IUI

I did my 1st IUI on 19 March.. everything was positive, my reports were not that complicated. It was just hard for me to get pregnant normal as I was stressed. As advised by doctor I was preparing myself physically and mentally. I was very calm and very positive that I will be pregnant this time . Yesterday I noticed a brownish color discharge and this morning some red spotting .Today is the 12th day after my IUI procedure. But this morning it upset me as i noticed some red spotting. The doctor’s assistant said I’ve got my periods early. I’m so upset, I had so much hope this time. I’m married for 5years and been trying to be pregnant for 3 years. Have I really got my periods? Has the IUI failed? Has anyone experienced something similar :( :(
