Any way to get a dog to stop licking?

I have a baby and a dog who love each other. My dog is always trying to lick my baby’s hands, face, or literally anything. I try my best to watch and break up the kissing, but it’s getting harder and my baby will start being more mobile soon. Is there any way at all to get my dog to stop licking her or is it a lost cause? What do other moms with dogs do?

I would make sure you keep up to date on your pups flea and tick preventative, as they also prevent most fecal parasites for pups. The parasites are often transmitted to little ones if they have access to the pups water bowl or if it’s a dog that gives a lot of French kisses. As the other commenter suggested, just be sure that the shots are up to date, there are some scary zoonotic diseases that can be transmitted to us, but luckily they have vaccines for them! (Specifically recommend staying up to date on Lepto 4 vaccine, but it should be part of your core annual vaccines that your vet offers anyways.)

My son literally runs up to my dog mouth open & she’ll lick his entire face. It’s kind of inevitable. As long as your dog is up to date with shots & you’re not going anywhere on trails or something where they can pick up something weird I wouldn’t be to concerned. Obviously it’s gross & i tell them to stop when I see it but if I had to chase them around all day it would be exhausting.
