Tattoo artists won’t give my deposit back

So I know Covid-19 is a big deal and affecting a ton of people, me included. I was laid off and have not been able to get unemployment yet. I had a tattoo appointment scheduled and paid the $100 deposit. The artist canceled with no reschedule in sight. If I still had income I wouldn’t be concerned and would just wait for the reschedule in a few months. However I’m super broke now. So I asked the girl for my deposit back until we can reschedule, and she said no and won’t return it. Again I’m all about supporting local businesses etc. But what do you think is correct under the circumstances? That she refund or no? Just looking for honest opinions. I thought and agree that a deposit is not refundable when the client cancels or no shows. I didn’t realize it could apply the other way around?
