Shoe Size~ Size 5 is too small.. What should I order?

Son is 18mo & his size 5 shoes are finally getting snug on his feet. I’ve begun sizing up for clothes, but I think it’s important that shoes have a closer fit. I’d prefer to have him try some on, but that’s not an option right now. I’m grateful we can at least order some though. Please help me decide what size to order!

If the shoes are snug then you definitley need to upsize. Having snug shoes aren't a good idea, it can cause blisters and serious foot problems to develop later. Get shoes that have velcro and secure it to the foot, but there should always be room in the shoe. Always.

CLARIFICATION: By “sizing up,” I meant UP.. like ordering 2T-3T, when he fits in 24mo clothes. So, with clothes I’ve been leaning toward the baggier side, so he can wear them longer & grow into them. With shoes, I want them to fit appropriately~ Not too big, and not too small! 😌

Measure his feet and compare it to the sizing chart for whatever brand. My son's feet seen to grow pretty slowly (he's getting size 5.5 xw stride rites for Easter), but my feet grew really fast. I remember when I was 8 I told my mom my shoes were too small for MONTHS and she wouldn't believe me because my shoes were "new". Finally she took me in to get measured as I was up 2 sizes. They grew a full size a year until I was 12.

If possible? Get the same brand he’s wearing now but in a size 6. That way there will be less room for error/varying fits. But I agree with pp, shoes that are too small can be harmful

I picked order size 6. However if I were you in this current situation with covid, I’d order both sizes. A 6 and a 7. My son jumped shoe sizes pretty quickly once. He’s 22 months and we went from wearing a size 7 to wearing a size 9 in the matter of 3-4 months. Also they are just like adult shoes and some brands run smaller or bigger than others. Nike runs way small.

Why would you upsize all the way to a 6? Get him a 5.5

Having snug shoes are  not recommended , they need space between the top of the shoe and their toes.
It can cause blisters and ingrown toenails if it's too snug.
