Cramping and bleeding 5 weeks pregnant

I was taken into hospital this morning because I had lower abdomen pain, mainly on my left side. No bleeding, hcg levels were normal. They thought I could be having an ectopic pregnancy and have arranged a scan for me tomorrow afternoon. (No signs of rupture) The doctor examined me before I left internally. I then came home and had a gush of bright red blood. I put a pad on and only had a tiny amount of blood in the pad. I've just wiped and found this? Has this ever happened to anyone else? Should I be concerned? Am I having a miscarriage? Could it be that the internal exam has made me bleed? Any comments and advice are welcomed. Thank you
