You should only use the mattress or padding the travel bed came with and is fitted perfectly for. Otherwise it’s not safe to add another mattress to it.

I'm assuming you mean either a pack n play or something like a bassinet or mini crib. All of those have approved sleeping mattresses for infants. So as long as you're within the age/weight requirements, it's perfectly safe for sleep. Just don't add anything other than a mattress protector &/or a fitted sheet (no soft foam pads, etc).

Yes, I bought a pack n play mattress because that’s all I used at first.  He has a mini crib though and I moved the pack n play mattress to that.
That’s where he slept the first couple of months

My daughter slept in a pack n play with a firm mattress until she was 2 and moved to a bed

My daughter slept in a pack n play the first 6.5 months of her life. Pack n plays are a safe sleep space.
