How many women chose midwives or doulas ?

Did you find it more natural and less fear based than a regular doctor /ob?

Doulas are non medical birth support, so they are not comparable to doctors in what they offer. Rather, you’d hire a doula to accompany you to your birth (with a midwife or a doctor) so that you have someone with you around the clock to support you (since doctors, nurses, and midwives have to leave the room and aren’t usually tasked with the same depth of emotional support). 
Midwives are medical providers with the same scope as doctors but they don’t do surgery. Some midwives attend births outside of hospitals for -low risk- pregnancies. Some midwives are first trained as nurses. Some nurse midwives work in hospitals (my local area in California has nurse midwives who attend most low risk births in the hospital). 
Statistically, Midwifery care is going to have more births without interventions because more people who want that seek midwives and because midwives only attend low risk births. So the statistics will reflect that. Midwifery care is also designed to be less interventional than standard OB care, but of course there can be midwives who personally do more interventions and OB’s who personally do less. Odds are, having a midwife results in having less interventions, yes.
I’ve also noticed my prenatal care with midwives has been way more thorough, they tend to have less patients so our visits are longer and wayyyyy less “rushed through the motions” feeling that I’ve had with multiple OB’s.

I’m from Uk and it is the Midwife’s that help us deliver at hospital and at home. 
If we need a c section then it is the doctor.

My hospital assigns a midwife rather than an OB if you aren’t high risk. I had a great experience and it was very relaxed. Just My husband and the midwife in the room holding my legs helping me deliver! No stirrups, bright lights etc. I really enjoyed it. This time I am getting induced so I will have my OB delivering but to be honest I kind of just want a midwife like last time!

I’m in Canada and live my midwife! I’m getting a c-section so have shared care with an OB now that we’re getting close, but it’s nice to have the same person seeing you through your pregnancy and after. Midwives also give you more choices - for example, there was no pressure to do the glucose test. They’re all about informed choice.
