Gender or sex?

Question

My husband and I refer to our baby's sex, not gender (I'm 14 weeks and excited to find out!). But I think most people say "gender" instead.  I think sex and gender are completely different, but I don't judge others who say, "we find out the baby's gender next week," etc. What are your thoughts? And what do you say?

I'm so tired of all of this politically correct crap. Everyone gets offended for everything!!! I'm having a boy! His gender is male, his sex is male.

At this point they can be used interchangeably. Since you're looking for a structure on your baby that a doctor can say "Yup, that's a penis, you're having a boy." Or "Yup, nothing there, it's a girl."

Sex refers to the biological and physiological characteristics. Like the chromosomes XX or XY, and on an ultrasound a penis or a vagina. Then later on in life the secondary sexual characteristics.

Gender on the other hand refers to masculine, feminine, or something in between. It's more fluid and can be dependent on societal norms, like a more feminine characteristic like wearing makeup, liking to shop etc.

I say gender even though I, obviously, mean sex.

But I am around several kids who get worked up over the word 'sex' and have a cow if they hear it. So gender it is.

There are three sexes, and loaaaads of genders.
So it's only fair to refer to it as sex.

I know the difference, however, I said gender  on the "gender" reveal invites just because it sounds better. That is all. There is a difference though.

Sex and gender can be synonymous. So I use both. 
Yes gender often refers to how one views themselves. But it also can refer to their body parts.
