Do animals deserve bodily autonomy

B

An example would be...say you have a very sweet cat who does not like to be held at all. The cat will not scratch you when picked up but she will pant and be stressed when picked up, you also have a child that loves cats and wants to pick her up all the time. Do you allow your child to pick the cat up despite her not liking it?

I see people who have animals that will force them to put up with unwanted touch mostly from children despite the animal telling them (in their own way) that they dont like the interaction. I personally feel that animals have a right to not be touched or harmed regardless of how sweet they are (not showing aggression in reaction only being visibly stressed). I also believe that animals are autonomous beings who have their own desires and interests. Curious what others think on this topic.

Edit** I do beleive that medically needed procedures should be done on animals even if they dont want it. Just like kids we are responsible for their well being so sometimes we must do things they dont like in order to keep them safe and healthy.
