What Table Coverings??

Ok so backstory! We have an old hand me down table from my brother we got when we were first married. Pretty sure it’s like from Target. Well it was fine till I must have used a cleaner on it that stripped the protective layer and now every time I wipe it with anything but water (even then) paint just comes right with it. Now my son is eating at the table like a big boy, (my daughter has already for a while) and he’s a messy messy dude. Now I don’t trust him not to eat stuff on the table and I’ve gotta find a solution.

Ideally I would like a vinyl one that I can wipe and poof be done! But would it look bad?? It’s a square table so it’s had to find them square as is, let alone the color I need. (Black). I would feel better about having it all covered too then cuz of coloring and markers and crayons and all that. We use color wonder but that stuff is expensive to always have on had.

Or should I do individual “non slip” placemats?? I hate the look of them cuz we have a small place and I don’t want clutter if I can avoid adding more.
