So, I’m gonna be a single mother. I don’t have faith that me and my ex are going to end up together. So, a few weeks ago I had a discussion with her dad about names. I told him that if we were having a boy, he would have a say so on the name. If we were having a girl (yes we are 🥰), he wouldn’t have a say so because I’ve always had a name picked out. I told him that to his face and he [seemed] fine with not having a say so on a girl’s name because that’s what he said. 🤦🏻‍♀️. Anyways, he texts me randomly asking if he gets a say and I told him no and that I had already told him that.

Well, I want her name to be Azalea. By the way, for some odd reason, the only people that like that name wholeheartedly that I’m close to are my two best friends, which is fine but it’s a little disappointing when your folks don’t like something that’s more unique than the names most of them have 😔. My grandparents are so religious, yet they don’t even like how she’s named after a flower. It means “flower” in Hebrew (yes I know she’s not Hebrew, but yeah lol), but they don’t know that lol.

He and I both agreed that we wanted the baby to have a Native American name no matter the gender. I told him that I was thinking “Earth Spirit” because of the drum group Northern Cree’s song “Earth Angel” and we don’t have a word for angel that I know of in my language. The song is beautiful and it helped me deal with a lot of things and baby Azalea is and will be a true blessing in my life. He says it sounds kind of weird, he hates it, and he wants us to come up with something else. His sister recommended a Navajo name... our baby isn’t Navajo lol.. and I know of a handful of Nizhoni’s (no offense, it’s a wonderful name). I didn’t even ask her for her suggestion first off even though I’m glad she wants to help.

I was thinking Aso:ti (ah-so-tee, blue) cause it’s our (her dad and I) favorite color, but it’s also basic even though it’s pretty.

After making all of this known to him, I was met with the notion that I’m trying to start baby mama drama and he wants no part in it. It’s just so frustrating tbh.

Even though I love “Earth Angel/Spirit” there’s also “Autumn Moon”. She’ll be born around Fall. I really just wanted to see if anyone else who is single is having a problem like this and how you’re handling it, and maybe even what y’all think about the names or the naming process lol...

- Autumn Moon

- Aso:ti (Blue) ... this is the only one I know how to say & spell right now cause I’m still learning the language
