They can put a judgement against you and sue you for them. Garnishment used to only be for taxes and child support now student loans too and possibly medical bills. Depending where you live.

They send to the debt collectors. If they try and take you to court, then the judge can order garnishment of wages. I had a surprise billing issue for $2,000 in 2016. I offered $500 they said $1,050. I told them to either take what I offered or nothing. Sooo they get nothing as of now. I told them to take me to court but it just keeps switching companies. If a judge ordered me to pay, I would. I think I could possibly win it though based on how it screwed me over. It comes off credit report after 7 years so I'm just riding it out. 🤷‍♀️
