Should I refund the Stimulus Check?
My older daughter’s father has never seen her or done anything for her. I put him on child support when he refused to put her on his health insurance (he was army at the time & I had a low paying job finishing college). My husband is the only daddy she’s known. Before we got married years ago, husband respectfully asked that my ex sign over his rights to my daughter & ex would come off child support. Ex refused so he never came off child support even though he stopped paying once he got kicked out of army. He racked up about $12,000 in back child support & IRS started garnishing his taxes in 2018. I’ve received tax checks ever since. He recently reached out to me wanting to know if I receive his stimulus check if I will give it to him as he really needs it & we don’t. My husband says it’s up to me, as we haven’t been affected by COVID 19 & we’re ok. I honestly would if he was a better person, but he’s NEVER done anything for the child....she’s almost 7. What would you do?
***EDIT****
To clarify, his question is if I receive HIS check because he’s so far behind in child support, will I let him have it.
This is also the man who refused to be a part of my daughter’s life to punish me for breaking up with him. His exact words were: “If we’re not together I don’t want anything to do with her. I want a two parent household for my kid”.
********EDIT 2********
I decided against giving him the money. This is indeed going towards child support payments that he wouldn’t owe had he not been skipping them for 4 years. I have no problem with wiping out all that’s owed if he decides to sign over parental rights. Thanks for your replies ❤️
