Best pain relief medication for labor?

What pain meds worked best for you during labor? I’m gonna try to do it naturally but why suffer/go through all the pain if I don’t have too. 🤷🏻‍♀️ FTM so we will see how it goes.So for a backup plan I’m wanting to get some medication ideas. Either way you do it is fine,natural or with medication.. I don’t feel like your a better person if you don’t get medication an I don’t feel like your terrible for getting medication. I know how sensitive people get over this topic at times. Just want some advice as a ftm.

I had gas and air first time round, this time round I’m planning on just using water as pain management 😊, I do however have a very high pain tolerance, my contractions to me just felt like period cramps, which I’ve always had pretty bad ones 🤷‍♀️. When your in labour do what you think is best for you, see what your midwife/nurse recommends, research the side effects of pain relief 😊

I wanted to wait as long as I could to get the epidural... haha. I went into labor already being 2 cm and I stayed at 2 cm for 12 hours in UNBEARABLE pain!! They wouldn’t give me pain medicine until I progressed. I went from 2 to 7 cm in an hour and I was like give me allllll the drugs! They gave me some kind of pain medicine, a shot in my arm and the rest in my IV, I don’t even remember half of what happened after that other than pushing for 3 hours. It drugged me up so bad but I was begging for relief. They only gave me that because I had to wait an hour on the epidural but I’d honestly do it all again. 16 hours of pain I was pretty much blacked out I don’t remember anything lol

Tbh its completely diffrent for every woman with from they always believe that labor is going to be hard to cope with the pain so they automatically think there gonna get the strongest thing they can straight away but many woman find that they cope with the pain better then they thought they would when I had my son in 2016 they my whole pregnancy I was so scared of the pain but just beacuse of stories my family and friends told me about there labours but when it actually came to the day I surprised my family with how I dealt with it I coped at home until my contractions got 3 mins apart and then when I got to the hospital managed with just gas and air until I was 10cm to which at that point I just wanted the baby out so I put the gas and air aside and focused on get my baby out 
If they ask in ur birthplan what pain relief u want ofcourse say ur open to everything but only use it if u need it

I was planning on going as long as I could before getting the epidural. If I needed it fine, if I could do it with out, fine by me. I was doing pretty well with my pain management on my own using counter pressure and breathing/hypnobirthing techniques. My babies heart rate kept dropping randomly so I was at high risk for an emergency c section so the doctor strongly recommended I get the epidural so that if things got worse, they wouldn’t need to put me under for the c-section and I would be able to be awake during it. The epidural definitely numbed everything and was very effective. Thankfully I ended up not needing the c-section, but I wish I could have gone longer with out the epidural. I’ll try again with the next kid.

I’m doing the same thing kind of. I plan on just seeing how much pain I can handle and if it becomes too much then I’m going to get and epidural

I never had any medication but I didn’t see it as “suffering.” I just personally didn’t want to risk the side effects

I was under general anesthesia, which was quite effective! 😆 I had Oxy after for pain management.
