Will I have an ultra sound and hear a heartbeat?

Question

I have my first doctors appointment on Monday when I’ll be 8 weeks and 5 days. Should I expect to hear a heart beat in the ultrasound? I have read so much conflicting information about this but it seems like lots of you ladies hear heartbeat even sooner than this. Please let me know what to expect!

I went for a scan yesterday baby measured 8 weeks 4 days saw the heart beating I asked if I could hear the heart beat as I've seen loads of people saying they've heard it at that stage and they told me that babys very small right now so dont wanna risk anything with a doppler and they start doing that until 16 weeks however I live in the uk so I dont know if u live here to or if its diffrent where u are

I heard and saw mine at 6w3d (after a spotting incident) and again at 8w4d. So you absolutely should be able to hear it, but I guess it depends on if your doctor is comfortable with the idea according to some of these other posts. In America they don’t seem to think there’s a risk if you listen to baby’s heartbeat that early. 🤷‍♀️

Well, you could see my babys HB on the screen but I didn't get to hear it...she measured it and told me it was 173..I'm guessing I won't hear the HB until my 12 week scan on May 4th.

So for me ultrasounds are done by specific techs at hospitals, your ob should be checking  for hb at 8 weeks for sure, and if not ask! :D

I’m in America, and at 7w1d, I could see it, but not hear it. I think it’s just dependent on your doctor. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve noticed this too! It’s almost depends on country. I’m based in uk and when we went for our 8 weeks scan she told us we won’t be able to listen to it cause baby is too small and it can cause harm etc but I noticed a lot of girls on here heard it x

You should at least see the heartbeat. I heard mine but it was almost 9 weeks if i recall.

I was 7 weeks at my ultrasound and I got to see & hear the heartbeat so it’s definitely possible!
