Should the media be able to play fast and loose with "the truth" and be protected under the first ammendment or should news stations be held to a higher standard?

If you claim to be a news organization, you have an ethical and moral obligation to report the facts. There's already too much editorializing and not enough reporting, they shouldn't be claiming to report the news and spouting bullshit.

American news outlets are a sham. Its embarrassing to watch both sides. They are not reliable, It’s like reality tv over dramatized trash.They are no more different than the misreporting and falsifications from China. And it will never change because (depending on what news channel you watch) they are taking direct orders from whoever is in the White House, ratings, advertising and $$$$$$$

Both. They should be protected under the 1st amendment, and held to a higher standard by the public, but not the govt. Literally every news org does this. 
If a group of people want to form a lawsuit alleging deliberate fraud that caused harm then that would be fine, but the govt should not be determining who is right or wrong because opinions and even lies are protected unless the fraud is against the state, in this case it isnt. 
If we are going to shut down fox news for this are we also going to shut down the mayor of New York who encouraged people to go out to festivals and continue their plans despite cases already reaching ny??

This is how I feel "Bye Fake news!" Lol seriously though. Freedom of speech is perfectly fine but I think it should be monitored when on the TV. Every news channel should tell the facts. Don't loosen the facts, don't say only part of it. Don't spread lies.
