Multivitamin or Vitamin D only? 4 month Breastfed baby

Hi, my baby is 18 weeks old and has been exclusively breastfed, I give him Enfamil Vitamin D Supplement everyday; but I just noticed that AAP recommend to give baby Iron supplement starting from 4 month also. I just rush to get a Enfamil Poly-Vi-sol multivitamin, which contains Iton, VD and VA, VC, etc. shall I give him this? My baby has not be ready for solid yet.

Typically vitamin d is all that is necessary.  Breastfed babies get everything they need from you, including iron.  Supplementing with iron (including iron fortified cereal) is only necessary if you have a reason to believe that baby is lacking iron.  Too much iron can cause constipation.  And really, vitamin d is only necessary if you are lacking it. I live in MN - so with my two winter babes I just assume we are all low on vitamin d and I take some and baby gets some.  My spring babe we did drops for her till we were outside all summer.

My ped said not to worry about iron until 6 months, and if we give him solids at that time then he can get iron from food (lentils, etc) or baby cereal instead of supplements.

My doc recommended iron for my daughter bc I’m low iron and my son had low iron probably bc I wasn’t getting him enough in my milk. He’s two and still anemic so maybe we will get lucky and she won’t be.
