Owlet Sock??

Question

With everything going on right now, how do y’all feel about the owlet sock that monitors the baby’s pulse and oxygen saturation?

I have one. My coworkers cousin lost their 6 month old to SIDs which is the age babies are “out of the danger zone”. The baby was evening sleeping in the same room and when they woke up she was already blue. I’m not risking it. I’d rather be woken up 1000 times and it be false alarm and not be woken up and something happen.

I’m didn’t have it with my first and don’t plan on getting it with this one. I feel like it’s a waste of money.  It is not FDA approved as a device that prevents SIDS.  It is also not recommended by the AAP due to false alarms, a false sense of security (that can prevent you from seeking medical care), and causing more harm than good.

I used it with my two older kids and can’t imagine being able to sleep without it for this baby too. I never had false alarms unless it was time to change the sock size or the sock was on wrong.

My grandfather is getting me it for my baby shower gift. He asked some of my cousins if they used it or liked it and a lot of them said it would have faulty readings but if that wakes me up that’s fine. I want it for my baby to make sure he is okay. But people do have mixed reviews on it.

I got one already for my baby but for me it’s necessary since I know that he has cystic fibrosis.  I’d rather have faulty readings but know if something is going on and be proactive and since cf can affect the lungs its not a question.

I would love one but I can’t afford it. I would love something similar for my 2 year old as well because he had a seizure a few months back and his dad and I just happened to be laying in bed with him thank GOD because he needed cpr. Now he is more prone to them in the future which scares the hell out of me. You just never know. I wish I could get some

We love ours. Baby will be sleeping in our room for first 6 months, but it’s also helpful for peace of mind and when they are sick. Our first was a November baby, so it was nice to have it during flu season as an extra precaution.

I can’t imagine not using it, I have an 11 month old and am due in June we just bought our second sock for the new baby. I can’t possibly understand people’s reasoning on it being “false assurance” id rather have a fake alarm go off than be awoken to a dead baby but that’s just me I guess lol. I’ve never had any false alarms the only times it’ll go off is if its not on properly and it’s a completely different alarm than if something is wrong with the baby

I had one with my son, it could be difficult at times cuz it has to be on just right and if they move too much it also won't register and typically when they move a lot it will move the sock in a position where it won't register. I loved it though and I definitely plan on using it again (this time more religiously, the one time I didn't use it of course ended up being the night my son passed from SIDS 😞 and not gunna lie I still sometimes beat myself up over it) I also went out and splurged on the snoo to help sooth my paranoia
