How is potty training going?

Going great! We started in February and now he goes by himself and takes naps without diapers, but we still use diapers at night because I’m not totally confident in him yet. He is usually dry in the morning, but I don’t want to push it. We used the book “Oh Crap! Potty training” and it worked pretty well. For some reason it took him a long time to learn that he could pull his own pants down without waiting for me to help, but one day it just clicked and he’s been 100% independent ever since. Also, he still uses his Summer Infant potty because he has trouble climbing onto the adult toilet on his own. In the morning he always comes into our bedroom and goes to our bathroom where I take off his diaper and help him onto our toilet, but that’s the only time I help. The only issue now is that when he’s outside in the backyard he pulls down his pants and pees standing up in the yard on the grass🤦🏼‍♀️. We have a Babybjorn potty for him outside, but he only uses it to poop.

Going great!  I recommend Oh Crap! Potty training book/audiobook.  We were waiting for signs of “readiness” but he wasn’t showing any.  Then quarantine rolled around and we decided to read the book.  The author suggests that the optimal window is between 20-30 months and she explains why in great detail (she also busts myths about readiness.) He was 30 months when we started.  We just finished week 3.  He mostly self initiates all pees and poops on the potty, or will go when we prompt him.  He is waking up from nap and in the morning with dry diapers.  We don’t do rewards, we just thank him for being a big boy and using the potty.  We are amazed at how fast he caught on! I believe we could have trained him sooner if we hadn’t waited.
