Has anyone proposed?

Lucky
I plan to propose to my boyfriend either on his 30th birthday or around our anniversary in 2016. I'm saving for a ring (as well as a small ring for myself I can wear until/if he decides to make a counterproposal) and for a trip to our favorite festival to make the moment special.
Does anyone here have experience or firsthand tips to share on proposing to your partner? Whether a same sex or opposite sex relationship doesn't matter, I just want to hear your story!
However, if you're going to tell me "women should never propose omg!!!!!11one," save your breath and my time.

I proposed to my husband! I had a cheap plastic ring for the actual proposal and then we went to a local upcoming designer here in Australia and designed rings for each other. The design process was the best part about the whole proposal, it took us a whole month (maybe more) to get the design right, and it was a collaborative activity. Very fun!

You can try googling "jewellery designer"

The designer was someone that had her pieces exhibited at a gallery and we loved her style.

My fiancé proposed first but wanted to wear a ring as well. I "proposed" by setting up a Christmas light display, writing him a song, and putting his favorite cookies around the ring box. The song led him outside to where I was waiting. He loved it :)

My friend Emily counter-proposed to her fiancé after his proposal with a ring engraved "Yes!" Just an idea, but it would be cute if you had something engagement-y engraved on the inside of his ring (especially if you plan on getting him a different wedding band when you get married - it would differentiate the two in a way that's harder for men's engagement rings).

and then getting him a ring of deer antler or just letting him pick what he likes afterwards

I like that ring idea--I was thinking about buying a cheaper set of wood rings at first

That's great! Did you arrange a big plan or keep it simple?
