Using the same name as a cousins kid?

We have found a name we both really like, but my husbands cousin has a 6 year old with the same name. They are a close family, but she lives in a different country and we rarely she her. 
Would you say it was frowned upon to use the same name?

I had this same problem when we were expecting our son, my cousin named their baby a name I’ve been wanting for a baby since we started ttc. I was so upset though we hadn’t told anyone so I had no real claim on it. Anyways we are also a close family but they live in a different country so if we see them we only see them about once a year. We decided to go ahead and use the same name BUT then when our baby was born we saw him and knew that was not what we were supposed to name him. We ended up going with one we’d never even discussed before but fits him perfectly.

Is the name super unique? I think it's mostly fine, unless their name choice is super uncommon, in which case it will be assumed you're definitely  being a copycat.

So personally, I wouldn’t let it stop me. But, I would maybe have your husband ask that cousin just to make sure they’re not offended if you use the name. I think it’d be a polite gesture and would avoid family drama if for some reason they would be mad if you used it.

I am in the camp of name your kid whatever you want. A name shouldn’t be off limits just because someone else likes it as well.

My cousin who is older than me has a six year old and my fiance and I both like the name. They live in Illinois and I live in California. I don't think it's weird.
