I've Reached My Limit

Colleen

So I know this is utterly my fault, but I cannot get my 1 year old to nap.

I say it is my fault because I've let her nap in a swing.

The swing broke, so now we have no choice but naps in the crib. It's very inconsistent, and it's stressing me out.

I'll breastfeed her, make sure she's awake, and lay her down. Tell her I love her and leave. She instantly starts fussing and stands up. I'll give her some time, and if she gets really upset go comfort her. She will calm down and then instantly go back into hysterics the second I go to leave again.

Sometimes this process eventually works, but more often than not we fight for an hour and then have to give up because she is missing snack and meal times.

I've tried staying up with her, laying her down over and over again (which works at bedtime) and she still ends up not napping.

Am I just being too impatient with this process, or is this just not going to work?

Any advice for this mom at the end of her rope would be so so appreciated.
