How much purée is enough?

I started  giving my little guy, who is now 5 +1 purées at 4 months because he wasn’t gaining enough weight so the doctor had me start a little early. He is eating the Gerber first step little tubs. Lately he has been finishing it and crying hysterically after like he wants more. I do still breast feed him which seems to satisfy him after a while but idk if I should give him more purée. I know 2nd stage starts at 6 months or so but I know those containers are bigger. 
I guess I’m just wondering how much you ladies are giving your little ones

Everything I have read and what my pediatrician has told me. Food is an introduction, for them to explore get use to the flavors and textures. They should still be getting all their nutrition from breastmilk until they are 1yrs old. 4-6mo baby should only be eating anywhere from 1tsp-2tablespoons. We shouldn’t assume baby to gain weight from solids, still breastmilk or formula should be given before solids.

We’ve been using the purée bags and she usually eats half of one twice a day but will have some meals where she will eat the whole bag in one sitting. I just follow her lead, as she feeds herself with the spoon and stops when full.

Well those pre-made ones are not good with so much preservatives. I would say make him his own I will be starting next week for my daughter I did it with her older brother and it’s really simple and easy I make them with my breast milk and like butternut squash etc make a lot and freeze it then take them out and let them warm up and feed it to them I use 1 ice cube size then got to 2 etc. my daughter is strictly breastfeed and is 23 weeks and 3 days and weighs 19lbs. And like I said I will be starting her on solids next week but I mix my breast milk with it. It’s honestly better then those packages from the store and cheaper too. And only takes about 4 hours to make all different kinds and freeze then you pop them in and bam ready to go but anywhere from 1-2 oz for his age should be good but you can do it 3-4 times a day. You should Be nursing as of solids don’t exist. I nurse her and then give her solids about an hour later so that she views them as two different things. We only give 1-2tbsps a day per our pediatricians recommendation. I give her solids usually Monday-Thursday and take the weekends off.

I started giving my aon the 2nd stage ones about 2 weeks before turning 5 months because he was a "sitter" he could sit up on his own which is what the package says. But you're supposed to milk feed 30-60min before feeding.
