I haven’t had a doctors appointment yet but have met with a nurse and she told me to stop breastfeeding my 1 year old. She said nursing might lead to contractions and I should stop BF now... Kinda hesitant because 1) she’s not a doctor and 2) I know so many mommas who haven’t stopped BF... Wanted to come here and get a broader picture of my breastfeeding pregnant mama friends.

When I was pregnant with my second I continued to breastfeed my second until she self weaned at 16 weeks ( I was about half way through the pregnancy). My doctor encouraged me to continue breastfeeding for as long as my daughter wanted even though I was pregnant. I would get a second opinion. One is early to stop if your child is not showing signs of self weaning.

Yea that's bad advice. I'm still BF. She s one and I'm 7 weeks and I have no plans to stop.

My doctor suggested that I start trying to wean. And gave a suggested time limit to be done by the 3rd trimester. But also mentioned that many women choose to tandem feed and since I was a very low risk pregnancy kind of left the decision up to me.

Since the chds 1 years old i would stop. He doesnt need it anymore so that little risk that is there isnt needed to be taken so ied stop

My OB (at a top national research hospital) was fine with me breastfeeding throughout my pregnancy. I still occasionally let my older one nurse a little (new baby is 10 weeks old). With a normal pregnancy, there's no medical reason to stop. Your milk might dry up or baby might stop wanting it (neither happened to me), but it's not unsafe. Your body is used to it so it's not going to cause contractions or any of the stuff you hear about with people being advised not to try pumping too early before baby is born. 🙂

I was never told to stop breastfeeding my daughter when I was pregnant with my second and had a miscarriage at 14 weeks. I don’t know if they’re connected but if I could do things differently I would have stopped breastfeeding when I found out I was pregnant. (She was 1 1/2)

My OB said it was totally fine to nurse as long as I wanted but said my supply might drop. Sure enough by 12 weeks I was down to only nursing once a day and couldn’t even pump anymore. Luckily with the once a day and my freezer stash i got my daughter to a year but then I was completely dried up. (I had gotten pregnant at 7 months pp)

My midwife encouraged me to keep at it if that's what I wanted to do. Ended up having to stop for other reasons around 11-12 weeks, but it never caused problems. My MIL was really freaked out that I was still breastfeeding, but she was always weird about it anyway. I think it's an old recommendation that's been disproven.

My doctor told me to start weaning my baby. He said it can cause me to contract. The nurse practitioner told me it was up to me to decide and to just do some research. I ended up drying up at 15 weeks and didn’t really have a choice.
