How often should you have a pap smear?

I just realized its been about 2 years since my last pap smear and I forgot how often you're supposed to go and get one!!!

I work in gynecology. You should get a routine screening pap every 3 years if you have NEVER had an abnormal pap. If you have a history of abnormal paps or positive HPV then you should follow the recommendations of your OBGYN.

A couple years ago best practices changed from every year to once every three years unless you have an abnormal pap. But it wouldn't hurt checking in with your doctor about it.

My insurance only covers every 2 years. I've had at least one abnormal pap and cervical cancer runs in my family but I can't get it every year because of my stupid insurance. At least get it every 2 years. It really depends on insurance and what your doctor thinks is a good time frame

Depends on your history. I’ve had no abnormal paps and have no family history of gynecological cancers so I get one every 3 years. At my last visit they mentioned if things are fine next time I’ll move to every 5 years (at next pap I’ll be over 35).

wellll i thought it was every year 😂 but my dads mom had cervical cancer so that must be why i get mine done every year!

I was told 5 years at my last pap. It's up to the dr as long as you haven't had any abnormal paps...
