Do you find it rude?

Do you find it rude if someone asks you to be your child’s godparent? I’m currently pregnant and the first thing my partner’s sister said when we announced was “Omg Im going to have a godchild!”  I just looked at her and didnt say anything then looked at my partner who just awkwardly smiled. Then a couple minutes passed and she asked “Im the godmother right?” I was shocked, I didnt know what to say. I just said we hadn’t discussed that yet. 
I personally think she was out of line to ask that, and put is in an uncomfortable position. In reality we have discussed that already and both decided on my sister and her husband. Now it’s going to be even more awkward when we announce that. 
For us the godparents are good role models, and people we feel comfortable enough to leave our child to God forbid something happens to us. And i think it’s a big deal that she asked us. But maybe it’s just me? Thoughts?

I do think it is a bit rude. Especially if she asked in front of everyone. Being a godparent is a really big deal. And you shouldnt put the parents in that awkward position. I would never just assume something like that.

I definitely think it was rude. And maybe I have known one too many manipulative people, but I feel like she purposely did it in front of everyone so you'd have a harder time denying her.

My mans cousin told us “If im not the godfather of one of your children, im going to be mad”

He has a drinking problem and cant manage his money, and he thinks if we die he is gonna get our baby???! I THINK TF NOT. He had me fucked up all the way.

Yes it is rude.  My friend did this to me because I am her sons godmother. She said "I should be your son's because you are my sons." And it kinda made me mad. She is not his godmother, she wasn't going to be anyway but I thought it was very rude.

Very. My best friend made me her son’s god mom . . When I got pregnant we decided on my cousin (like an older brother) and my aunt if anything happened to us.  When I told my best friend I was pregnant she immediately was like “omg I’m a god mom!” She took my god mom status away because we didn’t make her our daughters god mom.

I think the way she phrased it was a little rude. My sister excitedly said "do we get to be the godparents?" referring to her and her husband, and I wasn't offended by it. However, she was who we had already discussed leaving our kid(s) to if something were to happen to us so maybe that's why it wasn't as upsetting to me.

I had a friend of mine try and guilt me into telling her the sex and name of my baby by using “I’m the god mother” as her excuse/reasoning. Let’s just say she was very quickly no longer the god mother after that.

I think it's only rude mostly because she assumed she was.. And now she has given you the feeling that you're going to let her down.
We've decided on having our best friends as godparents exactly for thesame reasons you have. We want our baby to have a bond with them and we want to choose people that will have our backs no matter what, and unfortunately we don't have that feeling with any of our family..
