Vacation?!

Question

Is everyone canceling their vacation? We are on the fence...we are taking the Corona virus seriously and only going out when needed. My daughter and I haven’t been anywhere besides doctor offices when needed since mid March. Our vacation is planned for mid July and it’s in the Florida panhandle. We only planned going to the beach. We were thinking about canceling but are going with family that doesn’t want to. So now we are on the fence.

We aren’t doing any vacations that involve flights for the rest of the year. I have more than enough potential exposure during my work travel. I would still go if you’re driving and everyone is on board with only going to the beach or hanging out at the house. No extra trips into town etc.

I live in the panhandle and lots of things are open but people are still being cautious. I would say you’re ok, but that’s just me
(Plus, the beaches are extra beautiful right now since they’ve been closed for so long👌🏼)

In situations like these I am always asking myself a question “what I would regret more”. In your case would be:
Am I going to regret staying home and miss awesome vacation or Am I going to regret getting sick after going to Florida. I would pick the second. But everyone is different.

I’m a travel agent and a lot of resorts are opening around the pan handle starting mid May. I wouldn’t make any decisions now. Maybe reassess end of May and see how things go the first two weeks opening up? People are booking though so that makes me hopeful that travel will happen this summer ... I plan on going to pan handle at some point this summer too. I think there’s ways to go to the beach and still practice distancing and be safe. You can always order takeaway from restaurants too

The problem is that we don't know how opening up everything is going to end up. There could be another spike and then more things could yet cancelled/closed etc. I would cancel. Not worth the risk. Re schedule or plan for next year.  I had to cancel my trip to Oregon in late June. Too many unknowns.

I live in CT and planned a simple trip to New Jersey that I’m canceling, but NY, CT, & NJ were highly impacted, I think it should be okay for you to travel to FL, I would just pay attention to the area your traveling or even contact the hotel or hosts of where your planning to stay to gain some better info.

I think it’s too soon to tell for mid July. Are you driving or flying? There’s always going to be a risk no matter what until we get a vaccine, so it’s really a personal decision. We ventured out to a nature park this week about 2 hours from our home. There were a few people out but everyone was distant from each other so I felt safe. We plan on doing more trips like that throughout the summer. Just do what you think is best and safe!
