Is being seated at the back of the restaurant racist or am I overreacting?

Una

Hi all!

So I’ve been thinking about this for a while and wasn’t sure how to make sense of the situation. There is this one restaurant I always go to whenever I go into my city. I am a person of color (my mom is white and my dad is black) and me and my dad are usually the only people of color, everyone else is white.

We are always seated at the way back of the restaurant even when there are plenty of tables available at the front. When people (all white) come in after us, they are immediately seated at the front of the restaurant and are taken care of right away.

My family is usually forgotten about and we have to get up ourselves to find a waiter and even then we don’t get good service.

They‘ll take our order but won’t come back and check in with us while everyone around is getting great service.

The first time it happened I was with my family and we didn’t think much of it but then it became apparent that this was only happening to us because we were the only people being treated this way.

Am I overreacting about this? All of the waiters that I’ve seen are white and literally everyone in the restaurant is as well.

Whenever I go there now with my friends (whom are all white) we just get food to go. They think that I’m over reacting and don’t understand when I try to explain because they’ve always gotten great service there.

P.S. I know that I should probably stop going there but they’ve got some of the best food around.
